Why We Play
In Memory
The 2026 Aspen Valley Pickleball Championships honors the memory of Adora Spatz Sauer and all those touched by cancer.Adora, after a five year battle with breast cancer, passed away last year. She is the daughter of Aspen locals Marilee and Larry Spatz, and half-sister of Skippy Upton Mesirow, former Aspen city councilman.
As a international civil rights attorney, Adora initially devoted her career to representing victims of domestic violence. She later expanded her representation and advocacy to wounded veterans and victims of international terrorism.Adora was honored to represent and advocate for hostages and families, victims of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. Many days, she did this from a hospital bed. Sadly, she didn’t live to see the hostages freed.
